چکیده

Abstract Low nutrient use efficiency in maize as a result of imbalanced nutrition has been reported to drastically reduce yield. We implemented omission experiment assess the effect application on yield and nutritional balance. Maize ear leaves were analyzed for nutrients, identify balance status using Diagnostic Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) approach. Results indicated that N or P resulted highly DRIS indices respectively, significantly lower grain A strong inverse relationship between K leaf content with index suggests negatively increases imbalance many situations. Imbalances Mg, Ca Cu more associated higher yielding treatments. Which-Won-Where show imbalances diagnosis systematically frequent when was omitted. All diagnosed nutrients even under highest NPKZn treatment; indicating further opportunity increase balanced nutrition. Balanced belt Nigeria should target varying rates N, P, K, S Zn, depending soil conditions. But, because complexities interactions during uptake, it is hardly possible realize However, differentiating antagonistic into foliar soil-based methods recommended

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Iron acquisition in maize (Zea mays L.) using Pseudomonas siderophore

Siderophore facilitates iron availability in soil, but its assistance in iron transportation to different plant parts is not reported till date. Therefore, it is worthwhile to study the effect of siderophore produced by Pseudomonas for iron acquisition in the presence and absence of iron. To study these effects, two siderophore-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains RSP5 and RSP8 were selecte...

Epistasis in Maize (zea Mays

ISHER (1918) provided a framework for the characterization of genotypic variance whereby he partitioned it into three components: ( 1 ) a portion associated with the average effects of genes, (2) a portion associated with dominance effects (allelic interactions) of genes, and (3) a portion associated with epistatic effects (nonallelic interactions) of genes. A logical method for the further sub...

COMBINING ABILITY AND HETEROSIS IN MAIZE (Zea mays L.)

A line × tester analysis was conducted in maize involving 12 lines and 3 testers for grain yield and its components to determine the heterosis as well as general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) effects. Highly significant genotypic differences were observed indicated wide range of variability present among the genotypes. GCA and SCA variance for yield per plant numb...

A strategy for assembling the maize (Zea mays L.) genome

UNLABELLED Because the bulk of the maize (Zea mays L.) genome consists of repetitive sequences, sequencing efforts are being targeted to its 'gene-rich' fraction. Traditional assembly programs are inadequate for this approach because they are optimized for a uniform sampling of the genome and inherently lack the ability to differentiate highly similar paralogs. RESULTS We report the developme...
